Lets Build a Rod!
When planning for a custom build, we can either build to your exact specifications or just provide a general idea of the type of fishing you'll be doing with your new fishing rod and I can offer a few suggestions and do the rest. After deciding on your custom fishing rod components, I will give a written quote for the finished custom fishing rod. A $100 deposit to supplement the cost of the rod components is all that is needed to get started. The final balance will be required upon delivery.
The sections below will walk you through the build and selection process. The options are endless and below are just a sample of some of the most popular picks. If there is something that you don't see, let me know and I can provide you with additional options.
The Blank
A large determining factor in the cost of a rod starts with the rod blank. There are countless quality rod blank manufacturers that I utilize depending on the application (fresh or saltwater) and the fish species. I order regularly from Batson (Rainshadow), North Fork Composites (Gary Loomis Blanks), Rod Geeks (St. Croix Blanks) and others. Each one has it's own benefits and I'll be happy to make a recommendation based upon how you plan to use the rod.
As an over summary of some of attributes of these rod blanks, I have included a summary in the Rod Blank Specifics tab.
The Reel Seat
The first decision is whether you would prefer a spinning or casting seat. From there, we can choose from the many seats out there depending on personal preferences and the look and feel you prefer.
A few options are:
- Standard Seat
- Exposed Blank
- Palm Swell (Spinning only)
- Split Seat
- Hidden Threads
The Grips
We have a wide variety of grips available to choose from. Each grip is custom sized and cut to the proper length and fitted to the blank. Standard grips include cork or EVA foam handles but you can upgrade to a woven carbon fiber or a pressed carbon fiber grip. Set your rod apart from any other select a custom EVA grip or a custom cork handles with checkerboard or subtle colored burl accents.
The Guides
I offer a wide range of guides for any application whether it be spinning, casting or trolling. I use best guides from several manufacturers to include Batson (Alps), American Tackle, Fuji, and more. We'll make the recommendations, but you choose the type of guides you want on your new custom rod.
Thread Colors and Customization
Quality nylon and metallic wrapping thread are used in wrapping rods in your choice of color combinations. In addition to color choice, each custom fishing rod can be tailored to your specifications and can be personalized with your name or other special graphics to make your rod stand out. If you have an idea, we can talk about the options to incorporate it into your rod!
