My name is Jason and I launched Freedom Custom Rods in 2023. As a passionate angler of Maryland waters and the Chesapeake Bay tributaries for over 35 years, I understand the importance of having the right rod for the right occasion. Every angler is unique, and their fishing rod should be too! At Freedom Custom Rods, I specialize in building custom fishing rods that are specific and personalized specifically for your needs.
When you are thinking about a custom rod, I'll start the process off by asking a few questions to understand your specific requirements and preferences when it comes to your needs. Each custom rod is hand built, unique, and tailored to your specifications. Do you want the grips a little shorter....no problem. Do you prefer your fishing rod to have a heavy backbone for a hard hookset or a good topwater twitch....no problem. Do you prefer a rod on the shorter or longer side....no problem. Unlike mass produced fishing rods from the big box stores, or even specialty retailers, you will have the choice to tailor every aspect.

Selection of appropriate blank for your needs
Arguably the most important decision is the blank. With endless options, we will pick a blank that matches the length, action and power you are looking for in your rod.
Custom grip options
Choose from EVA/foam, cork or carbon fiber grips. After we choose a full grip or split grip, we can make the grip a little shorter or longer based on your preference.
Guide selection
The process of selecting and placing guides is crucial in ensuring a smooth and efficient cast. Additionally based on personal preference, we can choose between black, chrome or titanium guides.
Crosswrap, colors and personalization
How do you want your rod to stand out? Choose a themed color and accent it with your name, decals or marbling paint.
Final assembly and finishing touches
